Global Fund Private Sector Delegation

The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria is an independent, public-private partnership established in 2002 that is working to attract significant new resources to fight AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria, and to innovatively manage and disburse these funds to effective prevention and treatment programs in countries with greatest need.  To date, $4.8 billion has been pledged to the Global Fund, and $2.1 billion has been committed to 121 countries.

Leading multi-national companies taking action against AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria have appointed the Global Business Coalition on HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GBC) as the private sector focal point to The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GFATM).

In its role as focal point, GBC will coordinate the private sector delegation with the aim of increasing business participation in the Global Fund. Mr. Rajat Gupta of McKinsey & Company represents the private sector as Chair of the Global Fund Board of Directors.

A growing number of companies are poised to respond to the world’s major public health issues in innovative ways: businesses can co-invest in community projects, mobilize employee giving, and use core business assets and expertise to fight the world’s deadly pandemics.

GBC will develop further effective mechanisms to propel and broaden corporate involvement in the work of the Global Fund worldwide.

GBC is also eager to support business engagement with the Fund at the country level - particularly with the Country Coordinating Mechanisms – the multi-sectoral in-country unit of the Global Fund that oversees grant submissions and implementation.

GBC will coordinate and support the private sector delegation to the Global Fund from its offices in Geneva, Paris, Johannesburg, Nairobi, Beijing and its headquarters in New York. Enrico Mollica, GBC Geneva Director, leads this effort.
