DAVID STEARNS
Media Relations Manager

As GBC's Media Relations Manager, David is responsible for engaging the press to communicate key messages to existing and potential stakeholders, and to elevate the overall public profile of the organization through a strategic and sustained media outreach program.

Prior to joining GBC, David was a vice president with The Marino Organization, a boutique PR agency where he managed successful media campaigns and orchestrated high-profile events for a diverse clientele of local and national businesses and not-for-profit organizations.  David also has significant experience as a community organizer, having previously worked for Amnesty International and for a local non-profit, the Brooklyn Bridge Park Coalition. 

David began his career as a newspaper reporter and editor, covering local politics and general assignment news for several daily and weekly newspapers in Michigan, New York and Massachusetts.  He later worked in Zambia and South Africa, managing political party training, voter education and parliamentary development programs for the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs.  David earned a bachelor's degree in journalism and political science from Michigan State University, and a master's degree in international affairs from The George Washington University.  He lives in Brooklyn with his wife, Karen and his son, Sam.
