Confederation of Indian Industry / Indian Business Trust for HIV/AIDS (CII/IBT)

Mission:

To create and sustain an environment conducive to the growth of industry in India, partnering industry and government alike through advisory and consultative processes

Organization Description:

CII is a non-government, not-for-profit, industry led and industry managed organization, playing a proactive role in India’s development process. Founded over 100 years ago, it is India’s premier business association, with a direct membership of over 4800 companies from the private as well as public sectors, including SMEs and MNCs and indirect membership of over 50,000 companies from 226 national and regional sectoral associations.

CII has developed a "Standardization of the CII HIV/AIDS workplace program."

This standard specifies requirements for an HIV/AIDS Management System for all types of employment, where an organization:

1) Needs to demonstrate its ability to consistently provide a safe and healthy work environment.
2) Aims to enhance employee and community satisfaction through the effective application of the system, including the process of continuous improvement of the system.

CII established the Indian Business Trust for HIV/AIDS.

Indian Business Trust for HIV/ AIDS (IBT) was established in the year 2000 to provide a comprehensive response to the HIV/AIDS threat on behalf of the business sector. It is set up and supported by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), based on the understanding that the virus is not just a medical, but also a major socio-epidemic threat.

IBT firmly believes that business has a crucial role to play in containing the pandemic and can use the unique expertise, resources and reach at the individual and collective levels to fight HIV.

IBT acts as a focal point for organisations implementing HIV/AIDS programmes, providing leadership and direction, advocating for standardisation of practice and policy that can lead to effective coping strategies and creating a network of companies that place people at the centre of their operations.

Where required, IBT helps to provide inputs and technical expertise to companies for the design and development of specialized programmes. This leverage business’ unique assets, skills, and networks in the formation of an effective response to the HIV/AIDS crisis. In this process, IBT identifies and disseminates best practices to encourage shared-learning and promote a sense of collaboration as Indian business fights HIV/AIDS.

Mr Ratan Tata, Chairman Tata Sons, heads the Indian Business Trust for HIV/ AIDS.
