Awards will be granted in the six categories listed below; each category is open to business programs addressing one or more of the diseases. Please note that companies may submit multiple programs for consideration (for example, a workplace HIV/AIDS program and a community malaria intervention); however, separate applications must be submitted for each, and a single program may only be submitted in one category.
GBC Business Excellence Award: Workplace
Awarded to a company for combating HIV/AIDS, TB and/or malaria through a comprehensive workforce-focused program. Applications will also be welcomed from programs that incorporate interventions for two or more of the diseases, as well as programs in which the disease interventions are part of a comprehensive wellness approach.
GBC Business Excellence Award: Community Investment
Awarded to a company that expands HIV/AIDS, TB and/or malaria interventions beyond its own workforce and operations to reach the broader community. Applications will be welcomed from company-implemented intervention programs as well as philanthropic initiatives having a community focus.
GBC Business Excellence Award: Core Competence
Awarded to a company that best applies its core business skills, networks, markets or other strategic assets to address HIV/AIDS, TB or malaria, or a combination. Companies must demonstrate how their program goes above and beyond the company's core profit-making business (even if that business itself generates positive social impact).
GBC Business Excellence Award: Women & Girls
Awarded to a program that directly addresses the specific needs and vulnerabilities of women and/or girls, that involves women, or that directly confronts the gender inequalities that drive the epidemics. Girls and women need not be the sole focus of the program.
GBC Business Excellence Award: Performance Measurement
Awarded to a company that has actively developed an HIV/AIDS, TB or malaria program with a notably robust monitoring evaluation component. Preference will be given to programs where the evaluation has already identified impact and results.
GBC Business Excellence Award: Partnership & Collective Action
Awarded to two or more companies working together and/or companies working with co-investment partners on HIV/AIDS, TB or malaria, or a combination. Applications will be accepted from one company applying on behalf of a group if all participating companies/partners agree.
The Coalition's Business Excellence Awards are restricted to for-profit companies. Although implementing and convening partners such as NGOs and national business coalitions are vital for the success of company programs, applications will only be accepted from the companies themselves. Applicants are not required to be Coalition members and those who have not previously applied are encouraged to do so. Applications should be submitted for programs and initiatives that are currently being implemented.
An expert panel of judges will review all applications and determine the winners of the 2010 GBC Business Excellence Awards. The panel will be comprised of GBC member company representatives, previous award winners, representatives from international HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria organizations with scientific and public health expertise, government officials and individuals affected by these diseases.
The 2010 Judging Panel currently includes:
Multilateral and National Government Health/Development Officials
Foundation, NGO and Academic Experts
GBC Member Company and other Private Sector Representatives
In order to maintain transparency and impartiality, company programs will be evaluated solely on the strength of the submitted application. Judges will not reference any prior knowledge of company programs when making their decisions. Companies are encouraged, therefore, to submit applications of high quality that clearly articulate the breadth and depth of their program.
All applicants will be notified of judges' decision no later than April 30, 2010.
Winning companies will receive:
Commended companies will receive:

All applications must be received by February 1, 2010.
Please note that all submissions and awards-related correspondence should be directed to GBC's head office in New York-no submissions will be accepted at GBC regional offices.
